Founders Tamara Howard and Angela Wollschlager started their careers in human services with a shared goal: to drive meaningful change. But they quickly ran into broken systems and barriers that prevented progress. They realized that to be effective, they had to adapt to the ever-evolving needs of the community and the people they served.
Adaptt Rochester envisions a future where every woman and child is empowered to lead a life of purpose and dignity. We're building a Rochester where self-sufficiency and limitless opportunities are not just a dream, but a reality for everyone.
At ADAPTT, we've brought together a powerful team of women, including those with lived experience and professionals from human and social services. Together, we are creating a revolutionary model for transitional living. We provide homeless and at-risk women and children with the support, guidance, and love they need to achieve their own beautiful, unique, and unlimited potential.
More about us
Adaptt is an agency built on the premise that our community’s needs are ever changing. It is our responsibility as human service professionals and compassionate humans to create deep-rooted
systemic changes that fit the current needs. As Adaptt grows, we plan to address several at-risk areas
that affect the Greater Rochester area every day.
Adaptt recognizes that for people who come from cyclical and generational poverty, a strong foundation is needed. We currently have two initiatives to assist families in our community. Our name, Adaptt, stands for Angels Devoted to Achieving Purpose Through Teamwork. Our name is rooted in the belief that every human has dignity and purpose. Individuals adapt to survive, and as an organization, we must strive to adapt to the changing needs of people on their journeys. Our goal is not to push people into what we think is right for them, but to become their partners in helping them build their confidence and achieve the purpose they see for themselves.
Our two current initiatives are:
Complete Family Care
Complete Family Care is a comprehensive program designed to equip families with the essential resources, education, and products needed for daily living and long-term stability. This service directly addresses the fundamental needs of households by providing access to a wide array of products crucial for cleaning, hygiene, and household maintenance.
Beyond tangible goods, Complete Family Care offers vital educational workshops. These sessions empower participants with practical knowledge and skills in areas such as nutrition, maintaining a safe and healthy home environment, budgeting and financial health, self-care strategies, and coping with trauma.
The program also provides immediate support through access to our clothing closet and food pantry. Furthermore, Complete Family Care extends its reach by offering guidance and referrals to external agencies specializing in critical areas like housing assistance, mental health services, and other supportive resources, ensuring holistic family well-being.
Adaptt 100 Kids
Adaptt 100 Kids is a targeted initiative dedicated to supporting youth in the Greater Rochester Area. This program directly addresses a fundamental need for comfort and stability by providing each enrolled youth with a new mattress, bed frame, pillows, a complete bedding set, and new undergarments. This provision aims to create a safe and personal space for each child, fostering a sense of security and dignity.
In addition to these essential items, Adaptt 100 Kids incorporates invaluable youth workshops. These sessions cover crucial life skills, including conflict resolution, caring for oneself and others, nutrition, and food preparation. These workshops are designed to empower young individuals with practical knowledge and social-emotional skills vital for their development.
Youth participating in Adaptt 100 Kids also gain access to a network of expanded opportunities through our partnering agencies. These additional resources include access to free summer camps, new and culturally appropriate books, and various other enriching experiences that contribute to their overall growth and well-being.
Our vision is to reduce cyclical poverty, drug relapse, and homelessness in our community, by creating an
environment that is more equitable, and sustainable. Our overall mission is to help the women and children who come through our program to empower themselves and assist them in discovering their passions and purpose.
